The Hong Kong Toastmasters Club’s International and Mandarin Speech Contest was held on yesterday, November 29th, and the event was a resounding success. Each year, more than 30,000 Toastmasters around the world compete in various contests, such as Humorous, Evaluation, Tall Tales, Table Topics and International speech.
Participating in these contests provides Toastmasters with an opportunity to grow and hone their speaking skills to a greater degree and receive recognition in front of the audience. It’s also a chance to introduce new people to Toastmasters, hold a special event for the club, and develop organizational skills along the way.
This year we had six contestants who competed for the International Contest, and three contestants who competed for the Mandarin Contest at our club. Each of these contests begins with competitions at the club level. Club winners compete at the local Area Contest. Area Contest winners compete at the local Division Contests. Division Contest winners compete at the District Conference. District International Speech contest winners go on to represent the District at the International semi-final level.
