The Adam Aitken Award is named after our club founder, Adam Aitken, who helped charter the club in 1954.
On the occasion of the Club’s 50th anniversary in 2004, Mr. Aitken donated the equivalent of HK$20,000 to the Club to help promote the spirit of Toastmasters.
The Executive Committee that year used the funds to establish the Adam Aitken Award, which was intended to help members further excel in public speaking by encouraging them to participate in speech contests and to help defray the costs associated with attending contests, particularly district contests. Over the years, many members have been recipients of this award.
Currently, members’ achievements at Area, Division, and District level Toastmasters contests are rewarded with a cash prize as follows:
Champion at Area Contest | HK$1,000** |
Champion at Division Contest | HK$2,000** |
Champion at District Contest | HK$3,000** |
(** Subject to change) |
To ensure the longevity of the fund and benefit as many memĀbers as possible, a member may currently only receive any given prize once.
On the occasion of the Hong Kong Toastmaster Club’s 60th Anniversary in 2014, the club aimed to raise an additional HK$20,000 for the Adam Aitken Award, in order to continue this fine tradition of motivating and recognizing good speakers.
