Last night’s meeting was a beautiful blend of personal growth, practical wisdom, and heartfelt farewells, the perfect way to pause and reflect on how far we have come.
Victor Wan shared his journey through his first three speaking experiences in Toastmasters, pushing himself step by step to withstand pressure and grow more comfortable on stage. His closing message resonated deeply: We often underestimate how much we can change in one year. So take that shot – try the thing you feel you’re not ready to do.
Cynthia Hung delivered a practical and engaging speech on the formula for impactful presentations: Audience + Structure + Visuals. She demonstrated her point by comparing two examples – data versus visuals, showing how understanding what your audience cares about, building a clear structure, and choosing visuals that match your message can maximise impact.
Our former club president, Raymond Chung, recently hosted a fascinating workshop on speechcraft. Using an omakase dining experience as his guiding metaphor, he reminded us that the audience is the key of any presentation. Raymond stressed that clearly defining your audience and your core purpose directly shapes your content, paving the way for a compelling narrative and story structure.
Finally, our outgoing club president Shoni Wang delivered an emotional farewell message. She highlighted key moments where she felt she made an impact on the club and its members, sharing warm words of encouragement for our incoming president Lavanya Ramesh. It was a touching reminder of the legacy we build together.
Thank you to all our speakers and to our outgoing president for her leadership and dedication. Here’s to the next chapter! 💖
