What an exciting way to begin the new term! Our newly appointed Club President, Shoni Wang, energised the room with a dynamic opening, setting the tone for the meeting. We are delighted to welcome the new Area Director, Kelly Chan, who officially inducted the incoming club officer team.
Starting with prepared speakers, Aka Zeng opened with a thought-provoking speech, challenging stereotypes about Generation Z, sharing personal stories to highlight why breaking norms can be liberating. She encouraged the audience to occasionally step back from modern technology and embrace simpler moments in life.
Next, Victor Wan shared his Toastmasters journey, sparked by an awkward conversation on a date. Spurred on by the setback, he sought self-improvement – leading him to discover the transformative power of Toastmasters.
Annabelle Hong then reflected on how time has become today’s most valuable luxury. Realising her high-paying job left her unfulfilled, she made a bold career change – sacrificing some benefits but gaining happiness and a renewed sense of purpose.
We are especially thankful to Irene Cheng, who guided the inaugural Table Topics of the new term via several scenario questions across various stages of life. The first Table Topics speaker, Ben Fung, fondly recalled playing soccer with a close friend, a tradition that faded after marriage reshaped priorities. Serena Atsoi followed by sharing how taking an unconventional academic path – combining STEM and language studies – opened unexpected doors in her career later on. Finally, Paul Kam discussed shifting generational expectations around marriage and parenting, humorously suggesting his grandparents help raise his kids to show how outdated some traditional norms can be.
Definitely a strong start to the new term! We all look forward to the next gathering!
